Seven Rila Lakes
The starting point is “Pionerska” hut from where it is a 2, 30 hours walk to “Seven Lakes” chalet, traversing one of the natural reserves of Rila Mountains - “Skakavitza”, well-known for its 80m high waterfall. Another 2,30 hours of walking will lead you to the highest lake “Salzata” (“The Tear” (2535m). The path skirts all the lakes, reaching, for the most ardent admirers of nature, the peak Otovitza (2696m), which offers a stunning panorama of all the seven lakes. The circus is a representative site of sub-alpine and alpine vegetation and relief with picturesque landscapes of green meadows with fragrant flowers and forests of dwarf pine and juniper, in the higher parts steep rocks surround the lakes.

Paragliding
Sopot is a small town, the best Bulgarian flying site and our home base. We take the chair lift which brings us to the ridge of the Balkan mountains and start our ride, flying with the birds. There is no other feeling like paragliding, strapping on your wing, and gliding above the earth. If you desire to try it again, don’t worry – every flight is different and you will still have lots of new things to discover.

Conquer Maliovitsa - 2729m.
The day begins early in the morning in Sofia. The transfer to Rila Mountains passes through Pancharevo dam and Iskar River (the longest river in Bulgaria). Our final aim will be the complex Malyovitsa where we will leave the car and start the real hike in the highest mountain of Bulgaria – Rila. The region of Malyovitsa is famous with its alpine look, abrupt rocks and Malyovitsa Peak (1700m) – the Bulgarian Matterhorn. From there we have three options for hikes:
- to the peak of Maliovitsa (2729m) - the marked path leads us in the valley of the river Maliovitsa in one of the most alpine regions of the mountain. Our road passes also by Maliovitsa hut, from where we can enjoy the peaks named the Doll, The Evil Tooth, The Camel.
Duration: 5.30-6 hours
- to Strashnoto ezero (2465m) - literally it means “The Frightening/Scarry Lake”. On our way to the lake we will enjoy the scenery of Maliovishki ezera part of the glacial past of the region. Duration 5-5.30 hours
- to BAK refuge (2520m) – the trail passes through the valley of river Maliovitsa but this time our final destination is the wonderful view we will see from BAK refuge. Duration: 4-5 hours

Alexander Nevski Cathedral – the biggest orthodox cathedral on the Balkans, built in 1912, it is one of our signs of gratitude towards the Russians for their great help in the Liberation War (1877-1878).With its symphony of frescoes, colours, marble and gold the cathedral is a real piece of art! You should not miss the crypt with its significant icon collection too!
The Russian Church “St. Nikolai” – visit also its crypt, make a wish and pray to St. Seraphim to help you to make it happen…
“Ivan Vazov” National Theatre – have a break: while enjoying its beauty, you can have a coffee sitting in the garden or playing chess with local people
The Rotunda ”St. George” – the oldest and roundest building in Sofia (4th C) is a nice scene for orthodox concerts with its special acoustic and fine-work-frescoes decoration.
“St. Nedelya” – the square of ethnic tolerance, where from temples of four religions can be seen – “St Nedelya” church, “Banya Bashi” Mosque, the Synagogue, the Catholic Cathedral.
